A drunk man at an internet cafe inspired it
Hajime Isayama has said a run-in with an aggressive drunk at an internet cafe, someone he couldn't communicate with, gave him the feeling that became the Titans.
Shonen Jump turned it down
Isayama pitched an early version to Weekly Shonen Jump, which asked him to change it to fit the magazine. He took it to Kodansha instead, where it ran in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2021.
Levi was inspired by Rorschach
Isayama has said Levi's design was influenced by Rorschach from the comic Watchmen.
Two studios animated it
Wit Studio produced Seasons 1 to 3. MAPPA took over for The Final Season.
The heroes have a statue at a dam
Isayama's hometown of Hita in Oita Prefecture unveiled a statue of Eren, Mikasa and Armin at Oyama Dam in 2020. The dam is said to have inspired the Walls.
The Japanese title isn't quite "Attack"
Shingeki no Kyojin is closer to "The Advancing Giant" or "The Attack Titan," which turns out to be a story clue.
